GIE

The General Insurance Essentials (GIE) certificate program is a great starting point for any industry newcomer or an entry-level insurance professional. This two course program introduces students to the essentials of property and casualty insurance and equips them with a solid understanding of property and casualty insurance principles and practices.

The GIE certificate program is recommended for newcomers to the industry who have just started their insurance career journey. It is also for those employed in a company, agency, broker, or adjuster office in junior or support positions who want an overview of the insurance industry but with some detail about actual coverages and related claims routines. GIE should also be considered by those who have been away from the education process for some time and are looking for an entry-level program to start their insurance education. The GIE program is also used in several provinces as study material for agent/broker licensing examinations.

CIP

The Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) is the property and casualty insurance industry's comprehensive professional program focusing on technical and applied insurance specific knowledge. The CIP Program is comprised of 10 courses and 10 standardized national exams. The CIP designation, issued by the Insurance Institute, is highly recognized throughout Canada and is an internationally accepted industry designation. Once in the industry, most employers support their employees' insurance education with enrolment in the CIP program.

Certificate in Risk Management

The Institute offers a three-course Risk Management Certificate program tailored to the p&c insurance industry and well-suited for those looking to further their risk qualifications. Completion of the three courses should position students well to successfully challenge the CRM exams governed by the Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI), which issues the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation to successful students.
