Insurance Institute of Canada

The Insurance Institute is the premier source of professional education and career development for the country’s property and casualty insurance industry. The Institute sets professional standards for the industry through education programs that lead to a range of designations and certificates:

GIE

The General Insurance Essentials (GIE) certificate program is a great starting point for any industry newcomer or an entry-level insurance professional. This two course program introduces students to the essentials of property and casualty insurance and equips them with a solid understanding of property and casualty insurance principles and practices.

The GIE certificate program is recommended for newcomers to the industry who have just started their insurance career journey. It is also for those employed in a company, agency, broker, or adjuster office in junior or support positions who want an overview of the insurance industry but with some detail about actual coverages and related claims routines. GIE should also be considered by those who have been away from the education process for some time and are looking for an entry-level program to start their insurance education. The GIE program is also used in several provinces as study material for agent/broker licensing examinations.
